Wow. Is it just me, or is time in hyperspeed these days? April is half way over. Oscar just turned 11 months old and....it is snowing outside :) Of course it is snowing outside. It is Spring. And that's what it does. And how do we deal with that here at the Floeter household? We make cookies. Of course.
I made these today. With a cup of tea, they did just the trick to warm up the day. So yes....time time time. We are working like busy bees in the studio, and we WILL be restocking the shoppe this summer with NEW items and some old favorites. In addition to adding new items to our shop, we are also planting a HUGE garden in our new backyard. Ben built our compost bin last week and our "starts" have no idea it is snowing outside, so...shhhhhhh!

The wind is starting to blow hard and snow is still falling. Ben is at the store picking up chocolate chips and other important things to have when one is snowed in! Tomorrow is definitely cookie making day! By the end of the day Wednesday we may have another 12 inches of snow on the ground and the wind chill may reach 27 below! Cheers to everyone in the area who is hunkerin' down with plans to bake, drink hot chocolate and watch movies allll day long!
We are back! Our shoppe has been closed down for the last 8 months or so while we moved into our new home. Now that we have Oscar trained in the wood shop we can start crankin' out the products again! Right now we have the shoppe stocked with old favorites, but please do stay tuned as we launch some new items in the following weeks and months! Also in the works is a new etsy page just for Ben's amazing paintings! Ooooo! Coming soon!!!
We had our first official snow of the season this weekend :) Yay! It's so beautiful! I'm also happy to report that we have made some successful plastic-free changes since my last post! We have switched to cloth diapers and wipes and are so happy with that choice. It's a lot easier than I had anticipated! Oscar also prefers to eat his food whole, instead of mashed up on a spoon, so that eliminates the need to freeze portions of food! That was his idea ;)
We purchased the grocery "bulk" bags from Wonder Thunder and made our first trip to the grocery store with them :) They are so cute! It was great to not have to use the plastic bags for our fruits and veggies and bulk items.
Our journey to a less plasitc-y home continues, and we've also decided to do something completely against the grain and go cell-phone free! Like this guy!! AH! It's kind of scary, and also very exciting. I've never been a huge fan of obsessing over my phone and often miss calls because I've left my phone at home! I definitely get weird looks when I tell folks of this plan...but a part of me wonders if this will eventually become a trend?! Anyway...we'll see how it goes!

It's very overwhelming. I hate plastic. But it has become a necessary evil in our lives. It has made our lives easier in many ways. But now we have THIS.....and THIS......and THIS.....
And honestly, I'm just sick of having it all over the house. It is sneaky stuff....slipping in carrying our bulk nuts, flour and beans from the grocery store....it carries our "Seventh Generation" baby bum wipes...and stores our food. The worst is the bathroom...the containers of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, face lotion, deodorant, face soap, our toothbrushes...oh MY!
So I've been doing a little "shopping" (well..."window" shopping if you want to call it that!) I'm making myself a wishlist and thought I would share it with friends and family who might be inspired to do the same :)
The folks at Wonder Thunder make adorable bags for carrying produce and bulk items at the grocery store! I need about twenty of these! We love our fruits and veggies around here :)
Maybe one of these days I will try making my own Shampoo Bars, but in the mean time the folks at Dress Green look like they have it down! I'm anxious to give the Tea Tree Shampoo Bar with Aloe Extract and Nettle Leaf a try!

I came across these food storage containers and ice cube trays by Onyx a few weeks ago when searching for plastic alternatives. These are perfect! I hope to someday replace our plastic food storage with stainless steal and glass. Does anyone know of a company that makes freezer safe glass storage with BPA Free lids? Or maybe Silicone lids? So far these stainless steel ones look like the best option. For storing Oscar's smashed food, I'd like to get my hands on some products by Kinder-Ville! Last, but not least....I think it's time I make my own bum wipes. We have been getting Seventh Generation Wipes and they come in plastic containers. At least while we are at home I could be using handmade cotton wipes like the ones made by EarthSling and mix up a spray bottle of solution for Oscar's bum. This way I can make them smell good, the Seventh Generation wipes smell terrible if you ask me!
While it is certainly impossible to completely rid our house of plastic, I think just doing a few things at a time will be very rewarding. Phew! We FINALLY have our onesies in stock! And you will notice that is ALL we have in our shoppe! We have decided that our new house and our little man deserves all of our attention right now :) We are enjoying our time with Oscar and the process of making our first house our home :) Oscar is almost 6 months old already! He has had 2 bottom teeth for over a month and is making all sorts of cute baby sounds :) We are navigating the world of parenting styles, vaccinations, baby and mom blogs.....

as you may have read, we have been very occupied this summer with our latest and greatest creation yet! mr. oscar baby! i am currently typing this one handed while getting slobbered on the other immensley! our dear friend anne brought this contest to our attention and we agreed it is worth a shot! the grand prize is a $10,000 shopping spree @ CB2...since we just purchased our first home and had our first baby...we are ready to donate all the ikea pieces!!!! so let the voting begin!!! i will post a few more photos here of the treehouse...we feel it is most enchanting in the winter...wisconsin is famous for mosquitos afterall...
